Kim Jones, DVM

Kim Jones, DVM

Dr. Kim Jones fulfilled a lifelong dream when she opened Stoney Brook Veterinary Hospital in March 2009. Dr. Jones has practiced medicine in Colorado, New Hampshire and Vermont and has cared for pets at emergency veterinary hospitals, small animal practices and as a mobile veterinarian.

She grew up living in several different states but spent most summers on a large family farm in Kansas. The farm raised beef cattle and maize, but had the usual variety of pigs, chickens, rabbits, dogs and cats. Her love of animals, both for companionship and with a functional purpose, influenced her pursuit of veterinary medicine. She finds working in general practice the ideal challenge, blending science, veterinary medicine and working with people. She and her husband moved from Colorado to Vermont in 2004 with their two children and two terriers.

Dr. Jones attended the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry in 1994. A few vacations in Colorado prompted her to move there after completing her undergraduate education and she continued her veterinary education at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and graduated cum laude. Her professional interests include general surgery, pain management, progressive medicine and client relations. Dr. Jones has furthered her education with additional courses in dental surgery, ultrasound, grief counseling and practice management.

She is actively involved with the Upper Valley Humane Society, the Animal Friends Shelter of Kuwait, Dog Run Dog and Angels Among Us Pet Hostel in Hartland, Vermont. Dr. Jones currently lives in New Hampshire with her husband, Tom, and their two children, Elizabeth and Rhys. Their four-legged family members include a Great Dane named Alis, who is Dr. Jones' trail-running partner, and a ragdoll cat named Zuko.

A dog lover, Dr. Jones supports and enjoys all activities that involve dogs, including exercising with dogs, dog-powered sports, agility, field trials, dirt dog competitions and specialized training and showing. She especially enjoys meeting new dogs and their people and learning about their lives. When she's not at the hospital, Dr. Jones enjoys being outdoors and can often be found hiking or trail-running with Alis and snow-shoeing, sledding and watching her children play ice hockey in the winter.

Katie Cross, DVM

Katie Cross, DVM

Dr. Katie Cross first realized that she wanted to be a veterinarian at the young age of six years old. During her childhood, her love of animals grew as she helped her father, a wildlife biologist, recuperate orphaned or injured skunks, turtles, birds, and an assortment of other creatures. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science at the University of Vermont, where she graduated summa cum laude. She then attended Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. While at Tufts, Dr. Cross earned several academic excellence awards and was admitted to the prestigious Phi Zeta veterinary honor society.

Having lived in northern New England (Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire) all of her life, Dr. Cross loves this area and made the natural decision to move back north after receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She first practiced small animal medicine and surgery in Laconia, NH, prior to moving to Montpelier, VT in 2008. While she still resides in Waterbury, VT, Dr. Cross is excited to join the team at Stoney Brook Veterinary Hospital!

Dr. Cross has special interests in pain management, animal behavior, dentistry, ultrasonography, and orthopedics. She has completed extensive training and national certification in canine physical rehabilitation (the application of physical therapy techniques to animals). She provides veterinary physical rehabilitation services at the Burlington Veterinary Specialists referral hospital in Williston, VT two days each week. Dr. Cross is currently a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Vermont Veterinary Medical Association, International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians, International Association of Veterinary Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy, and the American Canine Sports Medicine Association.

When she is not working, Dr. Cross enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, tennis, biking, kayaking, and gardening. (You can often find her climbing a 4000-foot peak with the AMC.) She also loves to spend time cooking in the kitchen, and she has an award-winning blueberry pie recipe to prove it! She shares her home with two adorable but mischievous kitties, Thai and Kenya.
